Draped Flag
Our Work

We have held our elections to decide which ones of you
should go to Washington to do the work we that ask you to do.
What we absolutely need now is for you to choose
to stay united with us, and that is the truth.
So, if you please, all we simply do ask of you
is to start on the work that we have sent you there to do.

It is a tall order, that’s easy to see,
and additional tasks are gathering speed,
but these are the things that we think are the key:
Please bring all our boys and girls home from all wars with safety;
generate more jobs for our workers, we’d appreciate it greatly;
and nail down healthcare reform so we can all live our lives safely.

So if they try to sideline you from these with scandals and rage?
Could we ask you to stay focused and please do our work?
And if they try to delay them by burying them with red tape?
Would you suggest that you go forward and just do our work?
And if they try to divert you from them for your political gain?
Just ignore them, put your head down, and please do our work!

It might help you with our chores if you had an easy way
to remember what your intent should be every single day.
We suggest that you take off one special thing as you enter your office
such as your necktie or your earrings, as a symbol to help you to focus,
then continue that ritual for as long as it takes to see to fruition:
the day when we are all at peace, back to work and have healthcare in our nation.
